Subject: [Modisabilaw] HB 1865 - Home Access Tax Credit

Yesterday afternoon, the Senate passed a package of tax revisions that included the "benevolent tax credit " package of for several social tax incentives. Among the provisions is the residential access tax credit that people can use to afford to make their homes accessible. The measure would extend the credit until December 31, 2014 rather than its current demise date of December 31, 2013. The bill is HB1865.

The measure now moves back over to the House where there is strong opposition to another part of the bill that the Senate added -- a $75 million cap on historic preservation tax credits. House leaders will have to be convinced to support the bill or reach a compromise with the Senate on the historic preservation credits (last special session, the House was willing to accept a cap of $90 million). A final bill will have to be passed by 6 p.m. Friday.
