SB350 - Repeal of Circuit Breaker Property Tax for Renters
By Senator Dempsey
Just a quick correction - this bill to eliminate the Circuit Breaker
Property Tax for renters is of course a Senate Bill rather than a HB, as
identified in Friday's posting.
As outlined in earlier postings, the Governor has proposed in his budget to
eliminate the renters portion of the circuit breaker property tax credit.
This is the credit that is currently available for seniors and persons with
disabilities who own homes or who rent. The program provides up to $750 a
year for qualifying renters - single persons who make less than $27,500 and
couples who make less than $29,500
Last year, about 107,000 persons received over $57 million in credits. The
bill to eliminate the credit was introduced this week, but has not yet been
assigned to a committee.
