Hello, thank you for thinking out of the box. I was very sad to see this
fail, although I undersgtood the money issue. You can count me in for
helping to give for this project.

Again, thank you for thinking of new ways.

Debbie

Subject: [Nfbmo] A wonderful chance to be included in an online community.

Hello,

As you know we had a board meeting on Saturday, May 31. This meeting went
very well and I am honored to be on the board.

Among other things, we discussed the opportunity to have what is called a
"chat room" on the Internet.

This name, in my opinion, can be misleading. What people do is gather
together and have different sorts of activities, not only chit chat.

For example, there could be planning and discussion about NFB issues,
blindness, fund raising, governmental affairs and so on.

It would be a wonderful place to meet with people from other states and get
to know them in a relaxed atmosphere.

It is true that in a lot of these rooms people play games, however, they
also do a lot of other activities that is good for socializing

and drawing in other members. An example is if we had people attend a book
club, we could also talk to them about the NFB and who knows,

they might be interested in joining! And wouldn't that be great! Another
thing that would be very cool is it would give us another

locale to hold committee and chapter meetings on occasion.

Finally, the last benefit that I am going to mention is it would allow
people to talk to other people who are in the same place in life.

If you are the only blind/visually impaired person in your town of your age
or career or whatever, you could talk to people in other

states who are where you are.

Missouri has the opportunity to join an online community that several other
states are collaborating on. As with everything these days

this wonderful experience will cost us money. For one year it will be $300.
We are not sure if the cost will go down after that or not. We of course
can join for one year, and if we do not wish to participate again we do not
have to.

Which brings me to the reason for my email. The board discussed this
investment and although several of us are very interested in it

we do not feel that the affiliate has the resources to invest at this time.

So, I am writing to see how many people are interested in this idea, and
would be willing to give a few dollars to the project.

If six people committed to $50 that would be enough, if twelve people
committed to $25 that would do it as well.

If people are interested in contributing to the cost, or have any questions
about how a chat room works in general, please feel free to contact me, and
if I do not know that answer to your question I will find out and get back
to you.

Thank you for your time and attention. Please help me to make this wonderful
opportunity a success.
