Here are steps to change the protected view option and make reading/editing
attachments easier:
 
open Microsoft Word, 
Press alt+f for file and choose options. 
Press right arrow several times until you find the Trust Center tab, 
Press tab until you hear Trust Center Settings and hit enter.
Move down the list to Protected view and press tab three times.
The item is labeled Disable Protected View for Outlook attachments.
Press the space bar to erase the checkmark to change this setting.
Press two Ok buttons to return to the empty word session.
