[Nfbmo] Trouble

Hello, friend. Fair enough. I understand the difficulty of beating my head
against the wall trying to come up with new ideas, and I suspect from the
suggestions of others that they too have the same difficulty. I think one
new wrinkle may be that we are going to do a segment on the older blind, not
something we have traditionally done before. We have not talked much about
medical conditions associated with blindness, but I think that this
convention we will talk about non-twenty-four.

Of course, we still hope to hear from Rehabilitation Services for the Blind
and Wolfner Library. We will hear a report about national activities, our
annual state report, a report from her governmental affairs team, a report
from our Employment Research Committee and an upcoming seminar that is being
planned, and a discussion about transition from high school to college and
what this entails. Because we are in Springfield, I am going to see if we
can get somebody from the teacher training program to attend, but that
hasn't been finalized yet.

I guess the real question is whether people really wait until they see what
an agenda is before deciding whether to come. This has never been the case
with me. When I attended my first convention in New Orleans, registering for
the convention was the way one got to look at an agenda. The only thing you
knew prior to that time was that you could get your agenda in print or
braille, and it would be exciting. Until recently our state conventions have
never been available in advance, and some state conventions I have attended
don't even have agendas in braille. Now we usually have the convention
agenda out a week or two before, and we even encourage people to bring the
agenda on a device of their choosing.

I know it's hard to believe, but folks are simply not ready to have agenda
items finalized months before the convention. Even now Springfield is trying
to figure out what an opening ceremony should be. They are not unique in
this regard. This is not to say that the convention agenda couldn't be done
earlier, but the question is whether it really would do anything to increase
registration or get people to book into the hotel in a timely manner.

Since this appears to be an issue, we might put ourselves to the task of
figuring out incentives to register early. We already do this with
preregistration, but there is no incentive we offer for calling and getting
a room ahead of time. Let's put our minds to this and see what we can do.

Hi,

I didn't really have anything to suggest when others are content with the
format.

If you want something different, I think there is still time to get it on.
Each year we try for some new and some that people come to count on. The
agenda comes from the suggestions of the board and my plea for good ideas.
Yours are most welcome.

Warmly,

Gary

Hi,

Perhaps it would be helpful to know if there is anything different planned
on the agenda??

I just received an Email from the hotel for our state convention they are
VERY concerned about our block. Only 32 rooms have been reserved and there
is only a week left to make reservations before our rooms are dumped back
into general inventory. Call-417-831-3131 to reserve your room!!!!!
