[Nfbmo] some ideas for attracting convention participation

I think we need to think about one thing here. What would happen if we
didn't have a convention? Please know I'm not suggesting this. If we
didn't have a convention regardless of the cost or the participation, we
wouldn''t have the things we take for granted like Newsline, good
technology, and the right to be independent.

Your first suggestion is an interesting one, because I often find people
saying that they find the banquet to be one of the most entertaining and
informative pieces of the convention, particularly because of the banquet
speech. I don't think anyone could argue against lower costs allowing people
to attend, but I do know that we have standard below which we will not go.
People complain when we have them stay in hotels whose popularity was
measured by 1960s standards and construction. What do others think? Do any
of you remember the tiger hotel or the governor hotel?

I have some ideas that might work. How about having a banquet speaker from
somewhere other than the national office. ACB conventions often have
entertainment at their banquets, not just someone from their national
office. I don't know if room rates can be made any cheaper than they are,
but I bet that would make a difference too.
