Thank you, Bryan.

I can tell you that though my name is in the release, this was a collective effort. My committee provided me with great advice in writing this. President Wunder was also very helpful.

Again, if you see any media coverage, make sure to post links.

Regards

Daniel

National Federation of the Blind of Missouri to Hold 55th Annual Convention in Kansas City Local Elected Officials and Leading Professionals in Rehabilitation of the Blind to be Convention Guests

Kansas City, Missouri, March 30, 2017 - The National Federation of the Blind
(NFB) is the oldest and largest nationwide organization of blind people. We represent the collective views of America's 1.3 million blind citizens, and our members are blind and sighted men and women who work to improve the quality of life for themselves and others.
The major annual event in the NFB of Missouri's calendar is the state convention. During this gathering, members pass resolutions, vote for officers, and show the public that blindness does not hold us back and that we can live the lives we want.
Gary Wunder, president of the NFB of Missouri, recently said: "The convention is the time when we gather to discuss our victories, our challenges, and our strategies for addressing the problems that blind people face. In the last year we have worked on an agreement with Uber that will stop drivers from refusing rides to passengers with guide dogs. We have worked with school districts to accept blind students and to provide them with meaningful opportunities for their education. We have worked with Amazon so that their book readers and their new Amazon Alexa devices are now usable by blind customers. We take responsibility for shaping the programs that serve us, the legislation that gives us greater opportunity, and the attitudes that affirm that we are capable people who are willing to give back to the world in the same way our sighted friends and neighbors do."
The 55th Annual Convention of the NFB of Missouri will be held this year in Kansas City from April 7 through April 9 at the Adam's Mark Hotel.
Highlights of the agenda for Friday, April 7 include a One Touch Self Defense Seminar; a Blind Parents Seminar; and a meeting of the Diabetes Action Network, a division of the NFB of Missouri.
The Saturday April 8 general session will feature distinguished guests from across the state and nation. Kansas City Mayor Sly James will welcome convention participants to the city. In addition, other local elected officials will be present at the convention including Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Missouri's 5th Congressional District and is an active sponsor of legislation we support nationally, and State Representative Brandon Ellington, who is working with the NFB of Missouri to ensure the right of blind people to independently cast a secret ballot with the use of accessible voting machines. Immediate past president of the NFB Marc Maurer will be present, as well as Ronald Brown, the second vice-president, who will give an update on national issues and priorities in addition to being our keynote banquet speaker. Moreover, we will hear from leading professionals from the nation's three premiere rehabilitation centers for the blind as well as representatives from Missouri Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, Missouri Assistive Technology, and the Wolfner Braille and Talking Book Library. Other highlights from the Saturday Agenda include a report from outgoing state affiliate president Gary Wunder and the introduction of our scholarship winners.
On Sunday, April 9 the Kansas City Chapter of the NFB of Missouri will host a prayer breakfast. During the Sunday general session NFB of Missouri members will vote on resolutions and for the officers who will represent them on the board of directors. This year's elections promise to be exciting and historic since long-time president Gary Wunder is not seeking re-election.

###
About the National Federation of the Blind The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
