Greetings,
If you receive Social Security Disability you probably received your
notice of 2018 benefits.
The cost of living increase for both SSI and Disability is 2% however
some Disability recipients did not get that much and some will not
receive any increase in their checks. That is because Medicare premiums
have risen more than the Disability benefits have. For 2018 the Medicare
premium is $134.00. The law provides that your check cannot decrease
because of an increase in Medicare premiums but also provides that
Medicare will eat up any increases in Disability you receive until you
are paying the full amount.
Other important items:
the amount of wages you earn to be counted as a trial work period month
increase from $840.00 to $850.00.
The Substantial Gainful Activity threshold for non-blind recipients
increases from $1,170 to $1,180 and for blind recipients from $1,950 to
$1,970
