On Friday, regulators at Transport for London (TfL) announced a
controversial ruling that the popular taxi-hailing app, Uber, will be
losing its license to operate in the city by the end of the month. TfL,
which regulates London's public transport network said in a statement this
weekend that Uber was "not fit and proper" to hold the license. The
regulatory body cited public safety initiatives and security implications,
while London mayor Sadiq Khan has openly backed the decision.

With Uber's license set to expire on September 30, the ruling is bound to
have an impact on commuters in the city. Uber has more than 40,000 drivers
in London and an estimated 3.5 million customers. Uber has rejected
accusations that it endangers public safety and plans to appeal the
decision within 28 days of the ruling. The company also plans to continue
operating beyond its license expiration.
