Isn't the simple answer that of course they want you to see something in the service that you like and try it? They are a for-profit company. They hire people and harness technology to provide a service. The question is whether we want to buy it--no penalty for not buying, no gun to our head. 

Let's go back in history three decades. How many of us had a cell plan that cost us $50 a month for 60 minutes? The cost per minute--$0.83. What does Aira cost? It costs $99 for NFB members and we get 140 minutes and a promotional 60 minutes for the first six months. So forgetting about the promotional, what does Aira cost? It costs $0.71 per minute, and even this isn't a fair comparison because it doesn't account for the value of a dollar then and now.

Is Aira cheap? No. Is it ridiculously expensive? You will decide by whether or not you subscribe. Is it worth the money? No one can decide but you, and if you change your mind, you are under no contractual obligation. I wish my cell phone carrier had been so customer friendly.

I understand that not everyone can afford Aira and respect that even some who can choose not to spend their money on the service. But it hardly seems like a wrong or sinister thing to offer the super bowl service without charge and to do what every other company does--spend dollars on advertising in the hope of growing their business.

I get value out of my $100 a month, and I'm glad Aira is offering a service on Sunday that some may enjoy while doing so without charge. Just another opinion, friends.
