Thank you Shelia. Our chapter is blessed by having you as a member.

I think it is 8 members that have joined in the past 2 months, but I am not going to quibble with the state president.

As I sit down to Thanksgiving dinner this Thursday, I will be thankful that we have such a strong state Membership Committee and that our chapter members are engaging blind people and welcoming them into our organization.

Regards

Daniel Garcia, President, Kansas City Chapter

For Immediate Release

Kansas City Chapter Elects 2019 Board of Directors Chapter re-elects
president, elects new vice presidents and treasurer

Kansas City, Missouri (November 17, 2018): The Kansas City Chapter of the
National Federation of the Blind of Missouri held its annual elections
today. Effective January 1, 2019 the following individuals will serve on the
chapter's board of directors: Daniel Garcia, President; Vivian Bliss, First
Vice President; John Murray, Second Vice President; Ben Blagg, Secretary;
Jeff Giffen, Treasurer; Sarita Cann, Board Member; and Beverly Fulton, Board
Member. Ruby Polk will continue to serve on the chapter's board of directors
as Immediate Past President.

Daniel Garcia was re-elected to a second term as chapter President. Jeff
Wright, who has served as chapter Treasurer since 2011, is retiring from
that position on December 31. He will be replaced by Jeff Giffen, who is
serving as the First Vice President in 2018. Vivian Bliss is moving up from
Second Vice President to First Vice President and the new Second Vice
President will be John Murray. Secretary Ben Blagg, and Board Members
SaritaCann and Beverly Fulton have served the chapter in an exemplary manner
and were rewarded by the membership by being re-elected to another term. All
individuals running for a board position were nominated by the chapter's
Nominating Committee, Chaired by Ruby Polk, at the chapter's October 20
meeting. The fact that they were all elected demonstrates the Nominating
Committee's valuable role in presenting the chapter with a strong slate of
candidates.

After he was re-elected, President Garcia said, "Being elected last year was
exciting, but being re-elected this year is even more thrilling. It means
that I have done a good enough job in 2018 that you have decided to give me
another opportunity to serve as your president for one more year. I don't
take your vote for granted and I will continue to work hard to make this
chapter even better than it is." After the elections were concluded,
President Garcia thanked everyone for actively participating in the NFB and
thanked Jeff Wright for his 8 years of service as Treasurer.

About the National Federation of the Blind The National Federation of the
Blind seeks to achieve the complete integration of the blind into society on
a basis of equality. To accomplish this objective, our programs aim to
remove legal, economic, and social barriers and to educate the public to new
concepts concerning blindness. Every day we raise the expectations of blind
people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and
our dreams. We can live the lives we want; blindness is not what holds us
back.
