Hi,
The issue with the certified part of the mailings has been that it has caused an increase in people having their case closed. This causes an issue for the person as well as the Blind Pension staff that needs to do a cancel close. For many people that live in apartments or folks like me that live over a thousand feet off the road, the mail carriers were just putting a paper in the mailbox stating that they tried to deliver, and you have to go to the post office to pick it up. A lot of times, people were missing these little sticky notes because they have been getting stuck to junk mail. For many of us, traveling to the post office is challenging to get there during the hours they are open. It has just been a pretty big hassle all the way around and has cost the state in mailings that haven’t been received as well as staff time. HB 1270 only changes that 1 word, and our hope is that this passes through without any additional issues.
