What are PDFs?

PDF stands for portable document format. PDF files are easily shareable and cannot be modified when opened in Adobe Acrobat Reader or accessed in a web browser. They are commonly used in the workplace to share information and in school to access textbooks.

Many PDFs are accessible and can be read with JAWS once the accessibility preferences are set. PDFs that are created as image files or include information that is not arranged in the correct reading order are not accessible. Access these files using the JAWS feature called Convenient OCR.

What We’ll Cover

We will provide an overview of the portable document format (PDF) and show you how to:
·         Access Adobe Acrobat DC accessibility settings
·         Specify the reading order of a PDF
·         Navigate the start screen when opening a PDF in the desktop app
·         Read PDFs via the desktop app and in a web browser
·         Use Convenient OCR to read an inaccessible PDF

Jean Strohmier from our sister company TPGI will also join us to provide tips for creating accessible PDFs.
