Linda, did you call the 800 phone number I gave you? Start there. They really can help you with a lot of this over the phone.

No recording on the voice mail that said that, but I found out when I contacted another state entity for a completely different reason. Where would I submit that award letter? I wish I had known that 11 years ago when I had my case reopened. It’s confusing to me, that reopening a case is really more like starting over. I think this would be the 4th time I would have had to reopen my case, since having first opened one as a high school student in ’90.

One way to expedite a case if you are on SSI or SSDI is to submit a copy of your award letter which indicates you are receiving benefits based on blindness. It is called presumed eligibility.

You’ll need to have a current I exam. The counselor also will come out to your house, to get more details on why you need to reopen your case. I did this about a year ago. It took about a month. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Does it have to be a long, drawn out process? I have found a program that would give me the training I need to find a better job, that I will definitely need financial help with, but I only have a little less than a month to get into it. I’m hoping maybe some of you who have been here before, may have some tips on how I can expedite the process, if it is at all possible? Thanks.
