Subject: We had a great 5K Walk today!

Dear Chapter Members & Friends:

We had a great 5K Walk today. We had about 35 people come from the Kansas
City and Ivanhoe Chapters of the NFB of Missouri and the Johnson-Wyandotte
Chapter of the NFB of Kansas. The weather was a bit warmer than we would
have liked, but it did not stop us from walking around the park and the 5K
route

Those of us who are Kansas City Chapter Members were proudly wearing our
orange Walk for Independence t-shirts. The Kansas City Chapter brought
bottled water (which was generously donated by Jeff & Kathy Giffen), the
Ivanhoe Chapter brought hot dogs and snacks, and the Johnson-Wyandotte
Chapter generously donated $50 to help defray the cost of renting the
pavilion.

People started arriving as early as 8 am, and by the time I arrived at 9 am,
there were lively conversations to be heard as people eagerly anticipated
the start of the walk. At about 10 am, we all lined up next to the steps
leading from the pavilion to the sidewalk. I welcomed everyone to the walk
and stressed the importance of the walk and the fundraising. This was
followed by remarks from Linda Black-White, President of the Ivanhoe chapter
and Tom Anderson, President of the Johnson-Wyandotte Chapter. We then heard
an invocation given by April Brown, Ivanhoe Chapter Chaplain as well as some
remarks by our affiliate president and national board member Shelia Wright.
While I was walking, I was informed that Mayor Lucas came to visit us. He
was warmly welcomed by members of the Ivanhoe Chapter; they took pictures
with the Mayor and gave him a hot dog. After arriving from the walk, we all
ate lunch and had some more lively conversations before we slowly made our
way home.

Please note that we still have t-shirts for sale. You can call our chapter
Treasurer Jeff Giffen at 517-575-1213 to reserve your t-shirt, and you can
pay us at the May 20 meeting. Since these shirts are not dated, they can be
used for future Walks for Independence. Also, you can continue to get
donations for the chapter for the Walk for Independence through June 17, the
date of our June chapter meeting.

Regards,

Daniel
