Dear Friends:
Ever since it was decided that the 2024 NFB of Missouri State Convention would be held in Kansas City, I have stressed about the prospect of coordinating local efforts to provide a great convention experience for everyone. The start of our state convention is now only 4 days away, and I think everything is on track for this to happen. The reason for this is that members of both the Kansas City and Ivanhoe Chapters have stepped up to do all the necessary work for which I am very grateful. Both chapters will be co-hosting this convention, and we welcome all convention attendees to our fair city and hope you have a fun time while getting some important Federation business accomplished.
Let me recap what has been happening over the past year. On June 4, the Kansas City Chapter had a quarterly board meeting. We invited members of the Ivanhoe chapter as well as Gene Coulter, our state convention coordinator to attend. This was our first official convention planning meeting, and I still have the Zoom recording for anyone’s benefit. Starting with Thursday, October 12, we had convention planning meetings on the second Thursday of each month. This first meeting was well-attended though the Kansas City Chiefs were playing that day at the same time. During this meeting, we established the various convention committees and chairs. During the subsequent meetings we had reports from the various committees, and we kept tweaking the committees since we were getting more volunteers for said committees. Our last meeting was on Thursday, March 21. During this long meeting we ironed out the final details of our local convention planning. Yesterday we met at Tony Waterhouse-Leal’s house to put together the convention packets which everyone who registered can pick up starting on Thursday at 7:30 pm. I am also very appreciative of the help received from our state affiliate from Gene and Carol Coulter, President Wright, and our First Vice President Jenny Carmack who provided some valuable insight on where we might try to find childcare volunteers.
When this convention is gabbled to an end, I will be able to breathe a sigh of relief, but not for long. The next undertaking on my agenda will be moving, some time in May, from my apartment to a house I recently purchased. As those of you who are my Facebook friends know, my apartment complex decided to do some remodeling work on all apartments and would not renew the lease for this apartment. I could either move to another remodeled apartment or leave the complex. I think they have done me a great favor by pushing me out because I was able to find a house in a great neighborhood for a great price. Had I waited for 1 or 2 more years as was my original plan, I may not have been able to do this. #BlindHomeOwner
Regards,
Daniel
