Amendment 1 was defeated by over 9% meaning that Child Care facilities will not
be granted property tax waivers and that $400,000 will not be taken every year
from the Blind Pension fund. This seems a pretty clear message that Missourians do
not want special tax breaks for one segment especially when there was no promise
that the tax break would benefit either the workers at the centers or families
with children. Of course, we still need to remain vigilant but one would think
that the legislature would, at least, think for a second before proposing other
special tax breaks. Of course, there those who wish to eliminate the property tax
altogether.
