One week ago today I was nervous. Would we have people attend? Would we have
good presentations? The only thing that bolstered me was the old saying,
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained." We just had to try, and the possibility
that something good could come from this was far greater than the risk of
failure.
Luckily our event was a success. We had a student from Trenton and her
mobility instructor who did some real driving from her house to Trenton to
Columbia and the whole trip in reverse. Thank you to Jessica. Thank you to
Rylan, Justin, and Gage. Thank you to Patrick and Sarah for their wonderful
presentations. They ran the show so professionally that you'd think they had
been doing this for years. Thank you to Megan, our main organizer here in
Columbia and to Phil who also helped us get a room and kept the conversation
lively. Let us not forget Isaac. He joined us using Zoom, and has been a big
help throughout the request and organizing. Lastly, thank you to Jenny
Carmack who has done so much to be a bridge when our communication might
have broken down.
The board of MABS did something wonderful. They took my request from our
Columbia Chapter and not only said they would help but would run the event.
How does one say anything other than thank you when wanting a yes and ends
up getting two of them, when participation turns into a full on commitment.
Sure, I'd like to have seen twenty people and a real commitment to other
meetings, but we live in the real world, and what I saw was encouraging. I
come away feeling grateful to have been a part. What a fantastic experience,
and I offer my most sincere thank you.
