Greetings, friends. I am sorry to tell you that our friend Gail Bryant has
been transferred to a nursing home in Boonville, Missouri. She is in such
physically bad shape that she cannot stand or walk, meaning that going home
is not a possibility. She needs total care. I think that she would
appreciate a call from many of us, and I'm sure that you already have her
telephone number.

 

On a related note, her family is trying to move everything out of her home
and dispose of it as quickly as they can. At this point there is no money
for utilities, and all of them have other things they must do in their
lives. Ed's sister, Debbie Dupree, asked that I come to look at the things
that Ed and Gail had that were blindness related. Gail has several Perkins
Brailler's. None of them appear to be in working order, but mostly that is
because they are dusty, dirty, and need a good cleaning and lubrication.
They are willing to sell them. She has several of the old APH cassette
recorders that many of us loved for a long time. Whether they are usable or
not is questionable, and Debbie will try plugging them in to see if she can
get them to play. What is really terrible is that Gail has several braille
displays, everything from an old BrailleNote to the model that was sold new
in 2010. The braille displays are not ones that HumanWare is maintaining
anymore, so although they originally sold for thousands of dollars, it is
hard to see how anyone could do better than a very speculative investment
and some of them. I think they are bound for the trash, but I decided to let
you know they are there.

 

The sale is supposed to run Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of this week and
will be at 1212 London Dr. here in Columbia. I think that there are tens of
thousands of dollars in blindness related equipment, but again, I think it
is tremendously speculative in terms of whether it is worth anything. Anyone
who is interested in chancing on a really good bargain should go by and
check it out.
