Subject: Update of Intercity Bus Service
Bruce,
Hope you are having a good day. I was visiting with Jim Marks this morning
and he asked if I would share my information that I have about the intercity
bus service in Great Falls south towards Helena, and Butte.
Well the news I do have is not good at the current time. As of August 21,
2013 Salt Lake Express has stopped service from Great Falls to Butte. I
was visiting with the Independent Living Center in Great Falls and they had
seen a Salt Lake Express bus going down Central Avenue last weekend. I
visited with a representative of Salt Lake Express and that bus was just
hauling the baseball team from Idaho Falls. So I asked if they were going
to be coming back and serving that route any time soon. The answer I got
back was they were not making any money doing that run. So my next
person to visit with was Montana Department of Transportation Transit
Section and see what they were trying to do to help reinstate the I-15
corridor from Great Falls to Butte. The supervisor stated that they told
Salt Lake Express to submit a proposal and they would look at trying to
figure out how to get them some funding to help offset costs.
So like I said no good news but hopefully Salt Lake Express and Montana
Department of Transportation Transit Section can figure out a way to make
things work so the people that need the service can get the service. I will
keep you informed when I hear more information.
Sorry again for the bad news.
