I think part of the problem is that an individual will put their phone on
"speaker" and then set back away from it, and their mike is not one of those
that picks up well.  Another problem is that lots of the phones do a poor
job of picking up voices and transmitting them, or use of a hands free cable
or blue tooth not working well.

I don't know how to solve the problem, but several of the participants in
the meeting held by conference call were more faint than the others and
consequently harder to hear.  Joy
