Yes, the piece on TV was good last night, partly because NBC got it and
didn't back away from the subject.  I hope this time this will go farther
than a momentary national hand-wringing.  Let us not forget, though, that
Harold and Sheila are not just two articulate spokespeople for a good cause;
they are sticking their necks out about something that directly affects them
and their livelihood.  They have chosen to put themselves directly in the
line of fire, taking on a rich and powerful organization -- while one of
them is still working there, I might add -- and challenging an archaic law.
That is no mean feat.  We should not only passively applaud them for
standing up for the rights of the disabled, but also be actively ready to
stand up in solidarity with them and protect and defend them should they
need it.  This is not just their own personal struggle for first class
citizenship; this belongs to us all.  Let us not be afraid to take ownership
of it.
