Hi Sheila. What I got was a phone call from Jim Aldrich on Monday inviting
me to go to Baltimore with himself, Ted, you and possibly a couple others,
he wasn't sure at the time who all was going. He said the NFB would be
paying my way but I told him I was capable of paying my own way but he
insisted the NFB would be paying the way for all of us who were "invited"
from our chapter. He said Mark would be calling me yesterday to make
arrangements. I was very honored to be included in the group who was
"invited" to this event. When I didn't get a phone call from Mark
yesterday, I called Jim to find out what's up. The only thing he would say
was that the NfB would not be paying my way. I reiterated that I was
willing to pay my own way and that I was still interested in going, was I
still invited to attend? He refused to say one way or another and I felt
very slighted by the change in his tone. I felt that the NfB had decided
that they didn't want me to go for some reason that I didn't understand and
this hurt my feelings very badly. I couldn't understand why I was welcome
and then all of a sudden I wasn't welcome. As I said all along, I am
perfectly capable and willing to pay my own way and I want to go. I think
Jim spoke out of turn when he extended the invitation to me and then he was
too embarrassed to admit this when it came to light but still, I want to go
and I just want to know that I will be welcomed when I get there, not
shunned. I am not someone who takes "no" for an answer when I feel I hav a
right to do something and so I have taken the liberty of purchasing my plane
ticket to Baltimore and I have made my hotel reservations. I am only
fearful about not being welcome when I get there. Jim said that you and Ted
are some of the people from our local chapter who would be going. Is this
true? If it is, do you think I would be welcome to sit with you guys at the
convention as we are all members of the affiliate here in Montana or would I
be set away by myself? I don't think this would be the normal way you and
Ted and the others would treat me but I'm concerned that I may be shunned
because I'm the "newby" and Jim may not want me there under the
circumstances. I would prefer to forget about this incident regarding Jim
and just attend the convention like it never happened. Please let me know
if there is any reason I shouldn't go.
Sincerely,
Becca
