Hi Dar. That sounds like you and Jim had a great day! I've had a library
card in the past but I haven't utilized the public library for almost 15
years now because it's too difficult for me to read print anymore so I try
to get all my books on audio and I don't think the pub library has audio
books. I find it easier to get audio books from the NLS library in Helena
that I listen to and then I ship back to them. I download a lot of books
into this tiny little flash drive I bought so I have probably over two dozen
books on that flash drive right now and I haven't listened to all of them
yet. I love the new digital player from the library in Helena. It is much
more convenient than the old style four sided cassettes used to be that I
got from Helena when I was a kid after I went blind. I drive my husband
crazy sometimes, begging him to download more audio books into my flashdrive
for me. He makes out good though. I have grown fond of Louis L'amour and
so my husband gets to listen to his novels with me at night when we go to
bed. My husband has a lot of difficulty reading and so he listens to my
audio books with me and he's so used to it that he can't sleep at night
without an audio book playing. I really like the portability of my digital
machine. I take it with me all the time when I travel. I am in Minnesota
right now and I brought it here with me also. I can listen to it with my
headphones on long car rides or on long bus trips across country, things
like that. I just wish I was better at using the computer so I could
download my own books from the NLS library sight. I also wish I could go on
the NLS site and browse to see what all they have to offer. With Randi's
help, all I can get is his help downloading specific books that I learn the
name of the book and the author so he can go right to it, he doesn't want to
spend time reading through long lists of topics and things like that on the
web site so I can browse titles and subjects that are available. I've never
even been on the web site by myself before. Computer skills are one of the
many things I hope to learn at CCB if I ever go. It's so awesome that there
is a place like CCB out there for blind people to learn. I've never seen a
place like it before.

Hi folks,
Today I decided to miss mass and Jim went with me to the new library that
opened this last Monday.
We wanted to take a tour where they were quite busy giving other tours. So
they took our phone numbers and names to call us when it would be a good
time to do this.
We didn't feel unhappy about this, sense they took the numbers.
What we did though was to get library cards.
This is the first time that I have ever had a public card.
They shared that we could take a book home if we wanted to do so.
We also learned that we can down load books onto our I products.
They helped us fill out the paper work as well as reading the numbers to us
from each card.
We will wait for a month if we don't hear from them, then we will call
again.
We were wishing that we had an app that we could scan the page of the book
and have it read to us.
Ted have you done this with your phone with a library book, and if so, how
well did it read?
Jim thought that your phone was still a better deal at this time until
someone improves and updates the I products.
We also learned that anyone across the state can get a library card.
Just wanted to share on behalf of our fun day.
I am sure Jim will share more about the day when he gets to reading the
list.
