I agree, Becca.  The problem is that this is a Billings chapter matter, and
we are the Treasure State at large chapter, and as a fellow chapter of the
same state affiliate, we have no say about who belongs to their chapter or
what they can do with their chapter, any more than they can tell us what to
do with ours.  That is up to them.

Hi guys.  I'm not entirely clear on who this guy is who wants to join our
chapter but I'm concerned about making sure that he is not disallowed based
on anyone's personal opinions or biases.  Honestly, if he is affiliated with
the MAB, which is what I came to understand from the brief blurb I heard
regarding him this morning,we may be able to come out of this with a new and
passionate NFB member once he realizes how our stance on true independence
for all blind people differs from that of MAB.  How could allowing him into
our chapter hurt us?  So I for one, being totally uneducated about this
fellow on a personal level, think we should seriously entertain his request
for membership.  That's all folks!

Absolutely they could, but it would be interesting to see on what grounds a
member would not be approved.  But there must be some; otherwise, anyone who
just showed up and paid their dues would be automatically in.

Hi Ted,

Yes!  This is in our constitution!  It sounds to me that a person needs to
be approved for membership by a majority of the members present!  So in
theory, could a majority not approve someone for membership if that majority
feels they have good cause to do so?  Please feel free to write me privately
on this if you prefer or phone me for that matter! 
So far, members have not come before a vote of the  chapter members present!
They pass their $5 over and they somehow become members.
