National Federation of the Blind Praises
Social Security Class Action Settlement

 

Baltimore, Maryland (November 11, 2014): The National Federation of the
Blind <http://www.nfb.org/>  commented today on a settlement agreement
resolving a class action on behalf of employees of the Social Security
Administration (SSA) with targeted disabilities. Targeted disabilities
include blindness, deafness, partial or complete paralysis, and intellectual
disability, among others. The National Federation of the Blind provided
assistance to the class agents in this matter. 

 

Mark Riccobono, President of the National Federation of the Blind, said:
"The National Federation of the Blind is pleased that a settlement has been
reached that will provide meaningful opportunities for career advancement
within the Social Security Administration, one of the largest federal
employers of people with disabilities. This agreement will compensate
employees with disabilities who were denied positions for which they were
qualified and will put in place new reasonable accommodation, technology,
and training policies that will help workers with disabilities advance
within the SSA. We believe that this agreement rectifies serious inequities
and has the potential to make the Social Security Administration a model
employer of Americans with disabilities."
