[Nfbmt] Uber

Hi Joy and all,

The formula is quite complex! I don't think it is quite that simple!
Technology is entering into the mix here!

I'd go to:
http://www.uber.com and read what is there, find out how a driver must
qualify to work for or with Uber. A rider gets the driver's name, make
and license number of car coming to pick you or me up, and he/she would
take you or me to the place we wrote in. An estimated arrrival time is
written in which usually is from 5 to 15 minutes. I believe it says 10
minutes out if I'm not mistaken! We can text or phone the driver to
mention a guidedog, or say we are both blind or describe who we are so
he knows more about who he is picking up! Once the trips are over, one
is sent an email which allows us to rate how well the driver performed
his service. If happy, which is ten on the one to ten scale! If very
unhappy, this can be reflected in the Email! As Dar put it, we might
be able to get our ice cream home at a more reasonable time once their
service begins. Having to wait an hour and a half or more for a cab is
certainly ridiculous! We went a number of places during the NFB
convention and got back in time for activities we wish to attend! it
was nice to have that option! The local company does not have that
technology in place! The Uber site describes their drivers as
independent business persons who can work full or part time and select
their hours of operation. It almost reminds me of the Avon, Amway or
Shackley persons we dealt with so many years ago! If someone in the
small towns decides to become an Uber driver and he is the only one in
town doing this service, he may do well especially if he serves a group
of towns.

I'm not certain if it is up on Youtube or not, but Michael May of
Sendora made a podcast of taking an Uber ride. This reminded me of our
experience riding with Uber. I'd look for that Podcast.
