[Nfbmt] {Spam?} Re: Prepaid Cell Phones

We have a conference call phone number from totally free conference call.
That should mean it doesn't cost anything to call it. I don't know how that
works for people who don't have long distance on their phones, or people who
use prepaid cell phones. I guess if somebody doesn't have long distance on
their land line, they can let me know and we will make arrangements for them
to be on the conference call. Otherwise, people can make their own choices.
It has been my experience that cell phones and mobile phones aren't always
the best on a conference call. Land lines are easier to hear and mute.

I don't know what to think.

Jim has sent me a more detailed email.
Some of you may have also received it.

The issue at hand, how to connect with one another for the monthly phone
conferences.

Sometimes, as fast as I try and run, I slip off of the technology treadmill.

Not to exclude anyone is, of course, extremely important.

Yet, it may be that using the internet by way of such things as Skype or also
known as web conference, is something we should investigate.
I have used Skype a few times and really did think it was great. But I need
to get more experienced with it. I have an account.

My Skype Name is:
rikster5295
So please do search me on Skype and request to be a Contact.

My Skype name is hard to remember.
I may have to create a new one. But for now this is what I have.

In my case, I have a land line. I think after so many minutes I do pay a per
minute price. But it is not too bad. We just do not use the phone that much.

And I have an Android phone now. I am still working on what plan is best for
me. This month is a unlimited amount of minutes. But I am not on the phone
that much with that either.
I just am so anti-social, don't you see? No one wants to talk to me. They
hear all they want when I am on my radio show, I guess.
Okay. Kidding.

One thing I noticed. My cell phone was pretty lousy audio quality when I
moderated the December meeting.
I did not know it until I listened back to the recording.
So of course this makes me shy of using it this coming Thursday for the
February At Large meeting.

I am sorry that I do not have a solution. Or even as much time to shop around
for one as I would like.

I do think the suggestion that Joy made about calling one another, or daisy
chaining. That might not be a very workable solution. Except for the once in
awhile type of situation. But I have not really done that myself, so I cannot
say I know too much about it.

I think perhaps we could conduct a person by person poll.
Call a member, ask them what they want, or what they would like to try.
Keep a list of the responses. And then adopt a plan.

All I can say at this point.
Except.
Go Broncos.
Free Jalapeno Poppers during the Third Quarter if the Broncos are leading by
at least 10 points. If not, no poppers. That is my campaign promise.

If the Panthers are leading? Well, I guess our cat Lydia, she gets the
poppers. What can I tell you. She runs things around here.
32, 43. Hike. Crunch in the backfield. Another foiled surefire plan.

Best,
Rik

PS - I have to thank Indiana NFB state affiliate President Ron Brown for
introducing me to poppers at a local restaurant in Ruston, Louisiana in 1997.
I did not know what they were before that. After returning home, they have
become an eccentric Super Bowl off the diet consumable ritual for me.
Probably much too much processed food. But heck, once a year?
