[NFBMT] vote early and often

I got a call today from a toll free number. A nice friendly African American
lady was on the other end of the line, representing an organization whose
name I have since forgotten, wanting me to call my Republican Senator and
urge him to vote for the tax bill currently being debated in the Senate. I
politely declined, telling her I had already contacted him. She asked me if
I wanted to do it again. She said she could transfer me right over, and it
wouldn't take a moment. I then told her that I had already contacted my
Senator, and that I had urged him not to vote for the tax bill. She took a
small breath while she changed gears, and said she understood and thanked me
and told me to have a good day. I was shocked and didn't know whether to
laugh or be angry.

These people are serious, folks. I don't know what the final bill will be by
the time the House and senate get through compromising, or not, but I have
serious concerns about what I have heard so far during the senate debate.
The agenda seems to be to construct this huge tax overhaul bill behind closed
doors without bipartisan input, and to push this through as quickly as
possible, without any public hearings. I don't know what the burnt hurry is.
I feel like we are being thrown under the bus. This seems to be insanity to
me, and I don't know where we left the rails. I did hear someone say last
week that we are in the state we are because social media gives equal time
and equal weight to truth and falsehood, without any way to discern between
them. We are taught these days that truth is not discernible, what is true
for you may not be true for me. Anyone who thinks differently is above a
certain age or is not enlightened or holds beliefs that are archaic and not
relevant to these present times in which we live. I could say hogwash, but
that wouldn't change anyone's mind; it would just cement the idea in other
minds that my mind is closed and I want to bury my head in the sand and live
in a fairyland world that doesn't exist anymore, and thank goodness for that.
