Written public comment from an Aug. 6 meeting on the Department of Public
Health and Human Services budget is now available online
<https://leg.mt.gov/css/Committees/interim/2017-2018/Children-Family/Meetings
/Aug-2018/aug-2018.html> , compiled into comment on three areas -- mental
health services, developmental disabilities services, and general health care
services.

The Children, Families, Health, and Human Services Interim Committee held the
Aug. 6 meeting to allow interested parties an opportunity to suggest uses for
money that will be restored to the DPHHS budget in the coming months.

The department will receive more than $30 million in additional funding this
fiscal year because state revenues for the last fiscal year hit targets set
in Senate Bill 9 from the special session. That bill appropriated additional
funding to state agencies if the trigger was met.

The committee itself is unable to require that the money be used in a
particular way; the executive branch has the authority to spend any
additional funding as it believes is appropriate.

The committee, however, agreed to ask the department to provide detailed
information to the committee about its funding restoration decisions and the
reasons for the decisions. A copy of the committee's letter to DPHHS Director
Sheila Hogan

online.
