FYI,
Benetech was running the ImageShare project. With funding ending, Benetech
could not continue the activity. The Lighthouse in San Francisco is taking
over the project.

Subject: [NFBMT] Seeking comments to support a project: Tactile Model
Lending Library
Importance: High
Hello List:
With permission of President Marks, I am writing to solicit comments to
support the creation of a project I am calling the Tactile Model Lending
Library (tmll). The concept in its simplest form would work like this:
. A blind student is studying early American history. His/her
sighted peers have pictures of a Viking ship, Columbus's ships, the
Mayflower etc. The blind student has no clue what the ships were like.
The solution: A teacher requests models from the Tactile Model Lending
Library (TMLL). A box arrives and inside labeled in braille are models with
a braille and large print booklet of information. The blind student now
knows what the ships were shaped like. After the models have been examined,
they are returned to the TMLL.
Nationally, the NFB passed resolution 2002-21 which among other things calls
for the establishment of a model lending library.
I am asking for comment because next week, I will be meeting with members of
several Lions clubs to discuss the possibility of getting help from the
Lions to get this project going. If anyone has questions or comments, please
let me know. Thank you and have a great day.
Regards,
Robert Jaquiss
