FYI here is a recent announcement from the Montana Talking Books Library.
Some patrons are upset over this change. If you are unhappy with the change
described below, would you mind letting me know by replying to this e-mail
or by contacting me privately?

Most of us use technology to access the MT Talking Books Library. However,
new patrons often are unaware of what's possible for blind people today. I
think the NFB of Montana has a duty to advocate for quality services for
everyone, but we have a super special duty to reach out to anyone who could
benefit from our philosophies and practices. We ought to find a way to
connect with people under the new talking book program methods.

Hoping to hear feedback!

Dear Montana State Library Talking Book patron,

In April we reached out to you to let you know that the Montana State
Library will be partnering with Utah State Library for the Blind and
Disabled to provide your Talking Book Services. Beginning June 22nd, 2022,
Readers Advisor services will be available to you from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. Monday through Friday.

When you want to place book orders, talk to a Reader's Advisor, or have
questions about your account you can continue to call 406-444-2064 (local)
or 1-800-332-3400 (toll-free in Montana) which will be forwarded to Utah
State Library, or you may contact them directly:

Phone number: 1- <tel:800-453-4293> 800-453-4293

Email Address: <mailto:blind at utah.gov> blind at utah.gov

Address: 250 North 1950 West, Suite A Salt Lake City, UT 84116-7901

The Utah State Library staff is very excited to have the opportunity to work
with you and want to introduce themselves.

Paula Stuart: I'm a librarian who has worked in every type of library:
public, university, and now special library. I've worked in the network of
libraries for the blind for 16 years. I'm an addicted reader who will read
almost any genre in any format. My favorite genre is fantasy/science
fiction. No, it's science books written for non-scientists. No, it's
historical romances. Well, really, my favorite genre is books.

April Kennedy: Hello, I am April Kennedy and have worked at the Utah State
Library for five years. Prior to the State Library I worked at the Utah
Schools for the Deaf and Blind for 17 years. I am originally from Staten
Island (If you hear an accent). And I was not born in April :). I just
finished reading The New Urban Crisis by Richard Florida. Welcome aboard
Montana!

Michael Harris: My name is Michael Harris. I've been totally blind since
birth and a patron of the library since I was a little boy. I have worked at
the library for 14 years as a braille proofreader and have been a readers'
advisor for about nine years. I think of myself as the "gadget guy". I love
technology and thoroughly enjoy working with people through getting it to
work correctly. I would say young adult fiction is my preference. J.K.
Rowling and Shannon Hale are among my favorite authors. I look forward to
meeting all of you and, hopefully, pointing you toward some amazing books.

Cindy Kummer: Hi my name is Cindy. I started working for the State of Utah
seventeen years ago. Most of those years were spent working in the Deaf
Community with American Sign Language Interpreters. I transferred to the
Utah State Library for the Blind and Disabled about three years ago. I love
books and working with patrons. This job is a dream for me! My favorite
genre is historical fiction but I read most anything. I was diagnosed with
glaucoma almost twenty years ago, started medication early and still have
most of my sight. I enjoy camping in the mountains, traveling to warm
beaches and trying new adventures. Welcome Montana!

Lisa Nelson: Hello everyone, I'm Lisa Nelson, I was born and raised in Utah,
and the mountains are home to me. I've worked at the Utah State Library for
20 years. I love to read and learn new things, and my favorite genres are
history, archeology, westerns, historical fiction, and biographies. I manage
the library, and I really enjoy my job-I love interacting with all the
amazing people the library provides services to. I'm looking forward to
meeting and helping all of you in Montana find great books to read!

Montana Talking Book Services is looking forward to the opportunities
presented by this partnership with Utah State Library. We're excited to
continue outreach with organizations around Montana to ensure more Montanans
are aware of their eligibility for Talking Book Services, and to continue to
our relationships with Montana patrons. If you have any questions or
concerns, or just would like to chat, please contact:
