[NFBN-Announce] Now Open: 2026 National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska (NFBN) Scholarship Program

Greetings,
The National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska (NFBN) is now accepting
applications for our 2026 Scholarship Program. Each year, we recognize
outstanding blind students and celebrate scholarship recipients during the
Awards Banquet at the NFBN State Convention (April 30 to May 3, 2026) in
Kearney, Nebraska.

A Word version of the 2026 NFBN Scholarship Application packet is attached
to this email for your reference and to share with students who may prefer a
paper option.

Scholarships
. First place: $1,500 scholarship from the National Federation of the Blind
of Nebraska (NFBN)
. Two additional scholarships awarded by the Omaha and Lincoln chapters and
the Nebraska Association of Blind Students

Who should apply
Applicants must be:
. A legally blind resident of Nebraska
. Enrolled in an accredited two-year, four-year, or graduate college or
university program beginning in fall 2026
. Able to attend the NFBN State Convention April 30 to May 3, 2026 in
Kearney, Nebraska (Finalists are required to attend the all-expense paid
convention.)

Deadline
. Online/email submissions: received by 11:59 PM Central Time on March 1,
2026
. Mailed applications: postmarked by March 1, 2026

Required documents

1.	Personal statement (1 to 2 pages preferred) describing educational
plans, career goals, honors or awards, leadership or activities, how you
navigate situations involving blindness, and how this scholarship will
support your goals
2.	Transcripts (unofficial transcripts accepted for initial review
unless otherwise requested)
3.	Two letters of recommendation (may be uploaded with the application
or emailed directly by the recommender)

Intent to apply requirement
Applicants must contact the NFBN Scholarship Chair, Bob Burns, to notify him
of intent to apply. After the conversation, applicants should request that
the chair submit a brief note to the scholarship committee on the
applicant's behalf.
