Greetings,

The below research participant solicitation is being provided for informational purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our research mission.

Participant solicitation announcement for participation in a questionnaire on online security for people who are blind or have low vision.

This questionnaire is part of the PhD research and is an exploratory questionnaire to help us understand what problems blind or low vision people have with online security systems. Participants must be age 18 and over. And, participants consider themselves to be blind or have low vision to participate in the questionnaire.
We want to learn more about problems you have with different systems; and, we will go and study them to understand the problems and think about more accessible and usable solutions. The research areas we are investigating are passwords, password management systems, CAPTCHAs (explained in the questionnaire if you are not familiar with these), two factor authentication (again, explained in the questionnaire), fingerprint and face recognition systems and any other security problems you might have encountered. We will also ask about QR codes, which are sometimes used for security and sometimes for other purposes (for example, during and since the pandemic, some restaurants have a QR code on the table and you can possibly access the menu using that).

The survey with a consent form is hosted online at:

Please do not repost this announcement or link on social media sites such as Facebook to maintain integrity.

Everyone who completed the questionnaire will be entered into a prize draw for one of 10 Amazon gift vouchers worth $15 each. To be entered in the prize draw, you will need to provide us with an email address to contact you, but that email will not be used for any other purpose and will be deleted after the prize draw is made.

If you would prefer a large print version or have any other problems completing the questionnaire, please email Helen (helen.petrie at york.ac.uk<mailto:helen.petrie at york.ac.uk>).
