The January meeting always carries a little bit of extra significance because it is the beginning of the year when we are presented with the opportunity to renew our membership through the paying of our dues. It is also the meeting when we get to practice democracy in action by electing our officers and board members.

In order to participate in our dynamic democratic electoral process, you must be a member, which means paying your dues. You can pay in person. Just bring your $10 annual membership dues with you and show up a little bit early. Alternatively, you can pay in advance on the NFB-N webpage at www.ne.nfb.org. Once on the site, click on the “Learn more about becoming a member” link, then click on the Lincoln chapter option. This will bring up a short form which will allow you to pay your dues on-line.

For our elections we will be electing our president, vice-president, 2nd vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and three additional board members. Nominations will be open from the floor. The only limitations are you must be a current member to nominate or to receive a nomination and you cannot nominate yourself. There is no formal process ahead of the meeting for declaring your candidacy for office. If you are interested in seeking an elected position you might want to let somebody know in advance so you can be nominated.

On the topic of letting people know your interest in being nominated, I would welcome the nomination of a new chapter president . If you have the passion and the will to serve make sure you let somebody know so you can be nominated. In the event that no other candidate emerges, I am willing to accept a nomination for another year.

If anybody is willing to take on the responsibility of the quarter raffle this month, it would be appreciated. This would free up our chapter officers and President Richey for tasks like receiving dues, updating the membership roster, and preparing for the election.

At this meeting we will also be discussing fund raising at the state convention which has consisted of selling boxes of Baker’s chocolates in recent years. As most of you know, we have relied heavily on Audra’s indefatigable and joyous energy and salesmanship to move product at state convention. Unfortunately, Audra has been dealing with a faltering voice along with her sinus issues over the past several months, and she is not sure that she can produce the decibels required to fill a ballroom, and none of us want her to risk additional damage to her voice trying if she is not fully recovered. If you have a voice that carries and a willingness to use it at state convention in March, let us know. We don’t want to buy more chocolate than we can sell, and we can’t sell as much chocolate without somebody with a voice and a dogged determination that approaches Audra’s.

The meeting will take place at St. Mark’s on Campus, 1309 “Q” Street beginning at 10AM. Typically, doors open at 9:30AM to give people a chance to chat and enter the quarter raffle before the meeting formally begins. This month, I will have the doors open by 9AM. This will give us additional time prior to the meeting so people have plenty of time to pay their dues or to glad hand potential voters ahead of the election.

As always, there will also be an option to attend via Zoom. If you plan to attend by Zoom and want to vote, remember to renew your membership at www.ne.nfb.org in advance. The Zoom link is posted below.

Thank you and have a great week.
