*November is National Diabetes Awareness Month*, and according to the
American Diabetes Association, 30 million people living in the U.S. have
diabetes, and another 86 million people are pre-diabetic.

This month’s panelists will share information that can help you learn to
monitor your blood sugar, manage your medications, plan healthy food
choices and set goals for a healthy lifestyle.

*Elizabeth DeShields, Coordinator of Independent Living and Eye Health
Services*

Will discuss Diabetes Facts and Myths and CBVI Initiatives related to
Diabetes



*Nancy Kasmar, Eye Health Nurse*

Will describe the role of the CBVI Eye Health Nurse and will discuss
adaptive equipment for Diabetes management



*Katherine Herson, Nutritionist*

Will discuss healthy eating; how nutrition affects Diabetics and recommend
some easy to prepare, tasty recipes



*Deborah Alexander, Facilitator, Visionary Trailblazers*

Will talk about her personal experience as a diabetic; her leadership of an
ASPIRE group and the wellness activities they do together



*Casandra Thompson, Facilitator, Eyes Like Mine Book Club *

Will talk about how she maintains an active lifestyle living with Diabetes
