Close Up Conversations with Leaders of the Federation

The national Federation of the blind of Nevada is bringing back our call
series where local leaders from Nevada converse with long term Federation
leaders in a live podcast style like interview. Please join us on the third
Thursdays of each month from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM Pacific.

On Thursday, March 17, Buddy Collier from Nevada will speak with Gary
Wunder from Missouri.

Buford Buddy Lewis Collier Jr

Was born in Oklahoma in 1959. After high school where he was busy with
music and theater he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University where
he acquired a Bachelor of Arts. In 1988 he moved to Las Vegas, NV where he
taught elementary music while acquiring two masters degrees in
education. During
his last two years of employment with Clark County School System he began
experiencing difficulty with vision. Since his retirement in 2017 he has
been enjoying playing music and making new friends. Lately he has focused
on Braille being both a learner and a co-teacher of the code to adults via
Zoom.

Gary Wunder is sixty-six years old, is married to his wife Debbie, and
together they have four children and four grandchildren. Gary has been a
member of the National Federation of the Blind since 1972, has served on
the National Board of Directors as the corporate secretary and a board
member, and was the president of the National Federation of the Blind of
Missouri from 1979 to 2017 with a two-year interruption. He has worked for
the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics, for the Cerner
Corporation, and since June of 2010 has been the editor of the Braille
Monitor. He loves to read, enjoys exercising, and is trying hard to learn
to meditate. The answers he gives to questions are sometimes too long, but
when someone really stumps the chump, he's not afraid to say "I don't know."

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams.
