NJ
Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI), it is both a pleasure
and
an honor to announce that Governor Murphy has proclaimed June 21 – 27, 2020,
Helen Keller, Deaf-Blind Awareness Week.</SPAN></P>

style="FONT-FAMILY: arial,sans-serif">Helen Keller was one of the first
deaf-blind Americans to break the mold and prove that no disability can
prevent
a person from living their best life. Despite her disability, she went on to
become an author, a lecturer, and the first deaf-blind recipient of a
Bachelor
of Arts degree. Then, in 1908, it was 27-year-old Helen Keller who visited
NJ
and gave testimony to the NJ state legislature, which resulted in the
establishment of the NJ Commission for the Blind in 1910.</SPAN></P>

“Deaf-Blind and Thriving”, offers a perfect opportunity to celebrate the
abilities and accomplishments of people who are deaf-blind.</SPAN></P>
