<P class=MsoNormal>Greetings, my fellow NFBNJ members,<o:p></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><o:p><FONT size=3></FONT></o:p> </P>
<P class=MsoNormal>As you are probably aware, we are making a hard push to
get
the Access Technology Affordability Act (HR2086) passed in the US House of
Representatives. We now have over 100 cosponsors, and yesterday,
Congresswoman
Bonnie Watson-Coleman became the fifth member of the New Jersey delegation
to
sign on! She joins Bill Pascrell, Albio Sires, Mikie Sherrill and
Christopher
Smith from our state’s contingent to give their support to this important
legislation.<o:p></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><o:p><FONT size=3></FONT></o:p> </P>
<P class=MsoNormal>As a reminder, the Access Technology Affordability Act
will
help blind people purchase their own adaptive tech, such as screen readers
and
Braille displays, by giving them a $2,000 refundable tax credit to offset
the
cost. This credit can be used over a three-year period. This allows the
blind
person to avoid delays that come with asking the state agency to procure the
necessary equipment, increasing their chance of gaining meaningful
employment.<o:p></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><o:p><FONT size=3></FONT></o:p> </P>
<P class=MsoNormal>Of course, with five New Jersey Congress members signed
onto
HR2086, this means there are still seven who are not. If your member of
Congress
is one of those seven, please call them and ask them to support the bill. If
your Congressperson is one of the cosponsors, please call them to thank
them. To
reach your member, call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and say
you
wish to speak to their office.<o:p></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><o:p><FONT size=3></FONT></o:p> </P>
<P class=MsoNormal>While you are making that call, please also call Senator
Robert Menendez and ask him to sign onto S815, the Senate version of ATAA.
Corey
Booker is already a cosponsor, so you may wish to give him a thank-you call,
as
well.<o:p></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><o:p><FONT size=3></FONT></o:p> </P>
<P class=MsoNormal>Making these calls takes less than five minutes, and if
we
flood the phone lines, we show how important this bill is and increase our
chances of getting more cosponsors. Finally, feel free to ask your friends
and
family to also make calls. Thank you in advance for making the effort to
help
blind people live the lives we want.<o:p></o:p></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><o:p><FONT size=3></FONT></o:p> </P>
