Good work Natalie.

In case I didn’t communicate this, Kirk Wagner (owner of the NFBO web site) said he’d be happy to link the NFBO site to our FB page!

Hey All,
Thanks for the support and sorry this turned into such a confusing mess. I’m going to outline my plan below and take this offline. I’ll have an update at our next meeting!

Plan:

  1. Work with Kristen so we both have admin access to the current chapter page.
  2. Update the current page with more links/info from NFBO and NFB websites.
  3. “like” other NFBO chapter pages
  4. Post advertising our next meeting date/location
  5. Look into the rules/procedure for creating an FB profile for our chapter where we can then host the page.
  6. U888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888bg

Point 6 was by Peachy the blind kitten who decided she would walk over my laptop mid email. It made me laugh, so figured I’d leave it, since she obviously wanted to contribute.

See you all (except the lucky travelers) next meeting.

Cheers,
Natalie

Hi everyone,

These are all great suggestions. I, too, am not able to devote research time to this right now. I think we all feel this way:

  1.   We all trust each other;
  2. We all want clear lines of access tied to the Chapter, not any one individual as a method of succession and management planning
  3. There is no way to completely sever the tie to a chapter member, as we don’t operate from a Chapter office location/number

So, honestly, I am happy doing this anyway that will be easiest for Natalie. Natalie is leading the charge, is most knowledgable and is able to commit the time right now.

Natalie, could you decide on a structure that you like and is easiest for you and then contact whoever you might need to facilitate the set up? Could you also run any potential new names for the Page by the group before finalizing it? (I realize this may not be possible – I think FB sign up is instantaneous, so please shoot for a name that has NFB in it and any Linn-Benton references you can).

We trust you to make the decision, Natalie. If anyone else has input, please give it by the end of today, Sat 4/27/19, so we can let our awesome new VP move forward.

KJ

Hi all, I’m sorry, I am just running out of time to do much more, but if Natalie and others can chase this down, I think we’ll all be happy that we took time now to get it right.

Linn Benton Chapter may not be a “business”, but it is closer to a business than a person if those are the two choices. I am pretty sure that FaceBook would prefer that we consider it a business. I am still happy to let the business use my coast phone number. And we do indeed have an e-mail address:
linnbentonnfb at gmail.com<mailto:linnbentonnfb at gmail.com>
Lynn set this up as our “business” e-mail for our PayPal account. I can send the password to Natalie or anybody else, but I don’t want to put it on a list serv.

Here is an article on facebook business pages. I want to be sure we stay within FB’s rules. And per my initial email if we did an account for the chapter, we’d need to supply a phone number and email not tied to anyone else’s fb account to create.

Facebook requires pages be associated with people. The way we’ve handled this at the Corvallis Montessori School is to create a FB account for the school (as if the school is a person). The password is shared among admin staff so we all can administer and post and create events and ads. The password is changed when staff move on, so only current staff have access.

I am not entirely pleased with either option. Is there not some way to make the page permanent, not attached to any person’s personal page? What happens if the personal page disappears and/or that person moves on – eg Kristen gets appointed to the US Supreme Court or Natalie wins the lottery and moves to Majorca? We are planning to work hard to get this page really noticed. If we cannot somehow magically transfer all that love to a different page, we would get to start over.

But if an independent FB page is not possible, I will agree with Kristen. It should be part of the LB chapter president’s role imho.

Hi Natalie,

Thanks for taking on the FB admin role. I think we should keep the current page with the likes and the name. I think creating more posts and such will drive more traffic our way over time. If you have time this weekend to walk me through the admin switch, let me know. I’m not FB saavy at all.

Hi All,
I looked into creating an FB account for our chapter and then using that to create a page, however, in looking into that process more as well as peeking at other NFBO chapters, it makes the most sense to just admin the page from someone’s account.

So we have two options:

  1. The current page on Kristen’s page gets either transferred to my account or she adds me as an admin to the page.
Pros:
Keep existing likes/followers/info

  1. We remove that page and establish a new one on my account.
Pros: Kristen doesn’t have to transfer over the page

Because I have way too much time on my hands, I went ahead and created a page on my account and filled in some info as a draft.
You can visit the page here:
http://Fb.me/linnbentonblind

Alternatively the existing page can be visited at:
http://fb.me/linnbentonchapter

I’m fine with either option, but would love to get going with this project, so would love a decision by everyone so I can get started.

Happy Friday!
Natalie
