What a great conversation! Sorry I missed out. I'm assuming you are looking for feedback to happen on the list, so I'll just reply here.

I think to start we should recognize any business/organization whether it be employer or community organization. I think we could narrow down the scope as time goes on and we get a better feel for how we want to shape the recognition.
I don't think we need a committee, I think it would be really cool to discuss those at chapter meetings and simply hold a vote for them.

Just my thoughts.
Excited to hear everyone's ideas.

Hi Everyone,

We had a lively Chapter meeting last night!  From hearing everything we would bring to a desert island to great ideas about Blind Equality Achievement Month, our Chapter meeting was the place to be last night!

As a result of our discussions, the Linn-Benton Chapter has decided to present several community recipients with “Blind Equality Achievement Month Certificate.”  We want to recognize individuals and groups who are doing a great job of advancing the equality of blind people in our local area.

A question came up following our meeting, though.  Should we recognize employers of individuals who are blind with certificates?  We know about high unemployment rates and most of us have experienced discrimination in hiring.  Do we  recognize the employer who does not discriminate and who gives us a chance?  Do we focus on “bigger picture” results in the community instead. Also, do we need a committee to decide the recipients?

Please weigh in - your thoughts are so important to the  way we present ourselves and do our work in our community!
