She was active for one year and our peeps knew her. I don’t think it needs National attention. Maybe being a new president, who do I give this information to? Janet passed away this weekend. Janet joined us several times for Birding By Ear. Sally and I had the pleasure of doing tea one afternoon with her as well. It was difficult to arrange activities with her, but it was a delight when it occurred. May her memory be for a blessing. Kristen Jocums (706) 718-8055 From: Miriam Landman > Sent: Sunday, June 22, 2025 12:53 PM To: Miriam Landman > Subject: sad news, from Janet's daughter Dear friends, family, and people who knew and loved my mom, With a heavy heart, I’m sharing the news that my mom (Janet) passed away yesterday: June 21. She departed this plane of existence very peacefully and comfortably in her own home, in the early morning hours, with her good friend Sarah by her bedside—after two weeks under the care of Lumina Hospice, me, and a ā€œvillageā€ of supportive friends and caregivers. She had many wonderful conversations as well as visits from local friends in her last weeks, and her final, ā€œactive dyingā€ phase was mercifully short and peaceful, as she wished. After years of gradual decline from a degenerative neurological disorder (CSVD) as well as other health issues that diminished her quality of life, her decline had accelerated in recent months. By the time she entered hospice care, she was ready to move on and she was at peace with it. She very much felt that her passing would be (as she put it) ā€œno tragedy,ā€ having lived a long, full life. While my heart aches from losing my mother, I will aim to keep her perspective in mind and remember her courage. A lyric and a fact that she embraced was: ā€œWe are stardust.ā€ It’s a statement shared by poets and physicists (see https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/1410.Lawrence_M_Krauss and also https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/jonimitchell/woodstock.html). As an author and poet as well as a social scientist and psychology professor, my mom was deeply immersed in both the arts and sciences. I will post an obituary sometime soon, and I'll send you the link to that site, where you should also be able to share stories or memories or comments for others to see. And sometime later this summer, I will probably organize an online celebration of her life. If you would like to be notified when that has been scheduled, please feel free to reply to this email to let me know. (She had a lot of friends over the years, so apologies in advance if I’m not able to get back to you right away.) In the meantime, Jeff helped me put together this album of photos of her throughout her life: https://photos.app.goo.gl/zEbPxF55yM2e8RXA6 If you have an additional digital/scanned photo (or two) of her that you’d like to share, you can email it to me or you can add it directly to the album. Also, this is my mom's website, which has some information on her books, poetry, courses, and professional life: https://janet-landman.weebly.com/ And here is a playlist of some of her favorite songs, which some people might enjoy listening to (she listened to many of these songs in recent weeks): https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEme0pFHUGWm9APn0QYoZyyo8yiiiwmO9&si=4TVX3LXXAuQ4BLwk If you wish to make a donation in her honor, consider donating to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Compassion & Choices, Lumina Hospice, your local hospice organization, or another organization that helps people. With love, Miriam P.S. Please feel free to share this news (and the links) with other friends or family members who might want to know. (I might not have everyone’s contact information, and this email could go to some people’s junk folders.) _______________________________________________ NFBO-Linn-benton mailing list NFBO-Linn-benton at nfbnet.org http://nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo/nfbo-linn-benton_nfbnet.org To unsubscribe, change your list options or get your account info for NFBO-Linn-benton: http://nfbnet.org/mailman/options/nfbo-linn-benton_nfbnet.org/president%40nfb-oregon.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
