Subject: Invite to Participate: Help us a Design an Accessible Sensory Trail
for our Community
Hi Kristen,
I'm reaching out to share an exciting opportunity to help shape this new
sensory and universally accessible trail coming to the Owens Farm Natural
Area in north Corvallis.
About the Project
Greenbelt Land Trust, Benton County Health Department, and Disabled Hikers
are collaborating to design elements of trailside infrastructure so that the
pathway is enjoyable and accessible for people of all abilities. We are
gathering community input to understand what features make outdoor trails
more accessible for people with disabilities.
Trail definitions:
* Sensory Trails: Outdoor trails designed to activate sight, hearing,
smell, touch, and taste through interactive elements.
* Universally Accessible Trails: Trails designed for people using
mobility devices or experiencing limited mobility, balance challenges, low
vision, or blindness.
Who We're Hoping to Hear From
We invite feedback from people with disabilities-including those who are
disabled, deaf, blind, neurodivergent, or chronically ill-as well as family
members, caregivers, and those who work closely with these communities. I
would love to have your input and those in your network through National
Federation of the Blind included in the survey, as well as in the focus
group and/or site visit opportunities! Additionally, if you have others in
our community that you are able to send this notice to, I would appreciate
your help in bringing in more voices.
Three Ways to Participate (please share in your community!)
People with disabilities may participate in all opportunities; caregivers,
family/loved ones of people with disabilities, and service providers may
participate in the survey.
