It is with regret that I choose to post this to our chapter list. Though Wagners will join us until they settle in their new home down south, we’ll miss them here in Ohio.

Hello, dear Debby,

 

On many levels, it is hard to grasp that exactly 40 years ago, two enthusiastic and committed, if a little adventurous Germans in their early and mid-20s arrived in Springfield to make Clark County Ohio the center of their lives. Despite  all the  inevitable challenges that awaited conquest, optimism and excitement had predominated.. Nevertheless, we admittedly had not anticipated at the time  it would indeed evolve into a 4 decade long love affair, and result into a most satisfactory, immensely fulfilling  set of personal and professional accomplishments upon which we are now able and immensely grateful to look back on.

 

The list is way too long to recite. However, one of the most outstanding aspects we consistently encountered on our most gratifying journey has been the embrace of so many kind, warm and incredibly impressive people; too many to name, but quite a number of them became long time friends whom we have cherished - you very much among those.  We  hope to retain this most valued friendship in future, even though  we will no longer reside in this great Buckeye State that has been so good for us..

 

As you may know, we have long cultivated a sincere love affair with Charleston, South Carolina, and we had often envisioned to    actually relocating down there upon our final retirement.  Now that Sue has also reached this important milestone, we are excited to report that we are fortunate enough to be able to realize that long envisioned dream. We have purchased a beautiful new home in Mt. Pleasant, SC and are making plans to move down there in the near future.

 

It goes without saying that this very pleasant prospect also comes with a tremendous heartache, with some sadness and a fair number of new challenges. For one, we will be “abandoning” our son Dominique, who has    happily settled in Dayton,.. Moreover, we will be deprived of the immediate access to, and support of,   so many great friends, will be facing the tasks of learning a new infrastructure and acquiring a new local network. Nevertheless, we firmly believe the known and anticipated benefits will outweigh the inevitable inconveniences. And last but certainly not least, we sincerely hope to retain our very special relationship with you. For obvious reasons, we will certainly not abandon Ohio completely, and you are already warmly invited to visit with us in the Low Country as soon as we are settled.

 

We would love to see you before we move, so look out for an invitation to a casual garden party coming soon. we   With a lot of tears, we are also preparing to put our beloved home on Hawthorne on the market, so if you know of anyone who always wanted to move into our great neighborhood, point them our way.

 

Springfield has been a great place to raise our boys, to establish businesses and to become thoroughly infected by the American Dream. We are eternally grateful to all who made this possible, and will keep a very special place in our hearts. Thanks for the many  occasions to spend time with you in the past, along with a sincere wish for more of those in the future.
