Subject: December Support Group meetings

Happy Holiday Greetings,

As we have experienced a great deal of winter weather this December, we hope you are safe and well. We will have two support groups this month. The first will be on Zoom and the second will be live at the Center because we will be having a cooking activity. Though we will not be sending the usual large print letter, those who are on the calendar list will be receiving their large print, Center for the Blind calendar. If you have not received one in the past and would like one, please call 907-248-7770 or 907-771-4306. Here are the dates and times for our December support groups.

* Wednesday, December 14 at 1:00, we will be listening to a podcast called “Managing Social Situations, from Hadley. This includes going to social gatherings and inviting people to your home. Hope you can join us.

* Wednesday December 21 at 1:00, a real cooking project that everyone can participate in, provided they are at the Center with us. Sometime ago, we received a donation for kitchen items, and we chose to replace a Kitchen Aid mixer that was several decades old and not working so well. Fresh bread comes to mind for our project so come and

join in the fun!

Here is the Zoom link for the support group on December 14:

Hello all,

Just want to reshare the updated snow day policy that was revised last winter.

“Snow Days

When the Anchorage and/or MatSu School Districts declare no school due to weather (“snow day”), we will use the following steps to determine whether the Center will also close:

1) The Executive Director/Program Director or their designee will ascertain whether the roads are in condition to drive using observation, finding out whether People Mover/Anchor Rides are operating, and how safe we think it is for our staff and clients to get to the Center.

2) In the event a “snow day” is called we are expecting those staff who can work from home to do so. Those who cannot will take an Admin Day.

3) Employees will be notified by the Executive Director/Program Director as to the status of the day. Staff will let the Executive Director/Program Director know the best method of communication for them for the day under consideration (email, text, phone, other).

4) The Program Director/Instructor or their designee will call the clients scheduled for that day and let them know the status of the Center being open, or that the Center is closed for the day. The option of virtual instruction will be given if available.“
