NAST Foundation Launches New National Initiative to Advance Financial Empowerment for People with Disabilities

ABLE today™ serves as a national outreach and engagement platform for increasing awareness and promoting the positive impacts of ABLE Accounts

The National Association of State Treasurers Foundation (NAST Foundation) has launched  <https://abletoday.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2f8552627c301e095781be19f&id=66debba9a9&e=75ebdd6365> ABLE today™, a nationwide initiative to advance financial empowerment for people with disabilities by increasing the awareness of ABLE accounts.

ABLE today is leading a collaborative national outreach and awareness effort by promoting the benefits of ABLE accounts. Through the NAST ABLE Network, we support ABLE nationally and for the ABLE Programs in 46 states and the District of Columbia. 

This effort includes providing ABLE education to the disability community, establishing partnerships with stakeholders, and engaging employers on the benefits ABLE provides as a tool toward Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I). ABLE today was generously provided with founding support from Wells Fargo and aligns with their financial health philanthropy mission to open pathways to economic advancement for diverse and low- to moderate-income Americans.

ABLE accounts are a relatively new financial tool for people with disabilities. They were made possible by the  <https://abletoday.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2f8552627c301e095781be19f&id=0d2cab1b26&e=75ebdd6365> 2014 Stephen Beck Jr. Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, which created a savings and investment account specifically for people with disabilities. ABLE accounts allow people with disabilities to have money that is not counted towards asset limitations set by means-tested benefit programs like Medicaid or SSI. These asset limits can prevent people with disabilities from saving money beyond $2,000 and planning for their future, however, through an ABLE account those financial choices can now have different options.

Our first ABLE today national webinar will take place on the 32nd of the ADA, July 26 at 1 pm EST.
