Lusi, below is the email I just sent to these folks.
Charles

I'm a blind individual who has been blind since my teens. I'm asking for
your support to prevent the merging of the Division of Services for the
Blind with Vocational Rehab and the Division of the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing. Merger has been tried in other states and did not work.
Mississippi State also did a study which concluded that a separate agency
for the blind results in better services. Iowa, Kentucky, and Wisconsin
tried merger and failed so badly that they had to go back to separate
agencies for the blind. Rehabilitating a blind person takes in-depth
specialized services that can only be provided by a separate agency
dedicated to serving North Carolina's blind population.

Subject: [Nfbofnc] urgent weekend legislative action needed--contacting the
senate against merger

Greetings Everyone,

The House has Passed it's version of the budget. Unfortunately, Merger is in
there. Time is running out to stop this thing. This means that we must
redouble our efforts. Below is the list of Senate committee members of the
Department of Health and Human Resources Appropriations Committee. We need
to send them an extremely loud and clear message, "MERGER IS NOT
EXCEPTIBLE!!!"

There are five Republicans and three Democrats on this list. Spend the
majority of your time emailing and calling the Republicans. A few calls and
emails to the Democrats won't hurt either. Since the Republican Party is in
control we need to hit them harder.

In 1935 the Lions saw to it that we had the nation's first agency to serve
the blind. Perhaps future generations will say that we were the folks who
preserved it. Thanks for all the work you are doing.
