Seminars at Hadley Presents: Getting in the Game: Athletics for People with Visual Impairments

Sports, recreation and physical fitness are important for individual development and general well-being. Would you like to learn more about what opportunities exist for people who are blind and visually impaired to participate in sport in their communities? Are you interested in hearing how sports can be adapted to work with your vision level?
Join Seminars at Hadley as Matt Simpson, membership and outreach coordinator for the United States Association of Blind Athletes, discusses opportunities and resources for becoming more active.
Larry Muffett, a member of Hadley’s Seminars team, will moderate this 60-minute seminar. A question and answer session will be included as part of the seminar.

Seminars at Hadley Presents: In Celebration of White Cane Safety Day

What is the history of the long white cane? What are the kinds of canes available and how do I know which best suites me? Can I make repairs to my cane on my own? These questions and more will be answered during this seminar presentation.
In observance of White Cane Safety Day (now also known as Blind Americans Equality Day), join Seminars at Hadley for this “White Cane Primer” with presenters Pam Winters, Cathy Pasinski and Ginger Irwin, all Hadley instructors.
Hadley Senior Vice President Dawn Turco will moderate this 60-minute seminar. A question and answer period will be provided.

New Course Announcement: Teaching Children with Blindness and Additional Disabilities
Teaching Children with Blindness and Additional Disabilities <http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=10207074&msgid=743366&act=GE9S&c=225701&destination=http%3A%2F%2Fhadley.edu%2FShowCourseDetail.asp%3Fcourseid%3DTAD-301> is now open for enrollment. Written by experts in the fields of multiple disabilities, this course provides information on how to work with children with specific disabilities and visual impairment, and presents teaching strategies. The disabilities discussed include intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), deafblindness, learning disabilities, and cortical visual impairment (CVI). Examining specific disabilities and strategies to promote learning and independence will help educators successfully work with children with multiple disabilities.This course is open to students in The Hadley School for Professional Studies and Family Education Programs.
