SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Kids over in South Carolina hunted Easter eggs a
few days early and used their sense of hearing instead of sight.

The Columbia Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind provided
the event with "beeping" eggs.

The hunt was at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind on
Thursday afternoon for their young students.

Instead of looking for what was hidden in the grass, these blind
students listened and allowed their ears to guide them to the eggs.

"Today was absolutely great for me," said Tiffany Mitchell, the
president of the Columbia, South Carolina Chapter for the National
Federation of the Blind. "I hope the kids had half as much fun as I
did." Mitchell is visually impaired herself.

Filling those Easter baskets with eggs is a simple thing kids do year
to year, but it's new for these children.

"I saw children running and laughing and just finding eggs," Sandra
McLarty, with the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind,
said. "They were just full of joy."

The people involved say they are happy to provide these kids with
something they've probably never done before.

“It really is important to raise awareness," Mitchell said. "We can
still do things. We just have to do things differently.”

A little rain did move in but didn't damper their spirits. The joy was
on the students' faces even though they couldn't see it.

These "beeping" eggs do come with a price. They cost $17 each. If you
would like to donate, contact Tiffany Mitchell with the National
Federation of the Blind of South Carolina in Columbia at (803) 629-5915.
