Subject: Resource Guide for the Physically Blind, dan's tip for Monday April
27 2015
Below is a resource guide for " Physically Blind." I am not sure why it is
not just entitled for the blind and visually impaired. However, that is not
so important. The guide offers an excellent wide range of resources for
newly blinded, or those born blind etc. The Guide covers from children to
adults. I must give credit to the
"Flying Blind" Newsletter also called "top Tech Tidbits" compiled by Dean
Martineau, at: dean at topdotenterprises.com.
For including the website address for the resource guide in his weekly
newsletter. I would urge others interested in current developments in
technology to subscribe to the Flying blind newsletter by sending a request
to Dean's email shown above.
I have gone through and visited each site to insure that is still active.
There is only one dead link regarding guide dogs. That is marked with a
greater-than sign.
The start of each active link and site brief description as marked with an
asterisk which is pronounced as star by screenreader software.
I felt this resource is such a valuable guide to parents of blind children
or friends and/or care takers of older blind individuals, I visited each
site and included the direct link below each description.

Blindness is a medical condition that is categorized by poor visual
perception. The American Medical Association has described blindness as
visual accuity of 20/200 of worse while wearing a corrective lens. There are
different levels of severity of blindness, ranging from visual impairments
to total blindness. A person can be born without sight, or a loss of vision
can occur with age. More than 285 million people on the planet are visually
impaired, and most do not receive the help they need to get by in a number
of day-to-day situations. A number of medical professionals have dedicated
their lives to studying the eye and vision with the hopes of finding
rehabilitation methods or cures to blindness. Many resources exist online to
provide support, tips, and further information about blindness for those who
are blind or visually impaired.
